The blackened surface is coated in a water based non color paint, and the charcoal on the surface is allowed to solidify. After drying, the charcoal on the surface is less likely to come away, or to rub off with contact. The feeling of the (untreated) yakisugi itself will not change. Kurotoso is used in very famouse Archtect's modern building.
