Misugi
After charring, charcoal on the surface is removed. The color of the surface deteriorates and fades with age, though the charcoal’s late wood appearance remains. The weathered condition is beautiful. Misugi (Yakisugi) is often used in Japanese old capital city Kyoto. Frequently made use of as is, without coating even after aging. Japanese love aging Misugi much because of its natural aging.
Any shapes: Available upon request. Additional fees for cutting tools will apply.
For thicknesses of 21 mm and above, anti-warping back grooves are available upon request.

The degree of aging varies greatly depending on environmental conditions.
Because MISUGI is brushed to remove the surface char, changes in color due to aging are more visually noticeable compared to charred finishes such as KURO.
Areas exposed to both sunlight and rain gradually weather to a silver-gray tone, while areas exposed mainly to sunlight and less affected by rain tend to fade to a lighter color.
Even after turning silver gray, darker tones often remain in sheltered areas, allowing the characteristic appearance of Yakisugi to be retained even after aging.
These photos show Misugi on the south-facing and west-facing sides approximately five years after installation.
This is just one example, and depending on conditions, the appearance may become similar to the west-facing side within as little as one year.
Note : Photos are examples only. Weathering may vary depending on conditions.
