A new all-Hinoki (Japanese cypress) home—EUCA Haus—has been completed in a vast residential district about two hours west of Bangkok.
The structure is primarily Hinoki (with some Hinoki structural glulam). Exterior cladding uses YAKISUGI (GEN); interior walls are 12 mm Hinoki/Clear structural plywood; flooring combines Hinoki Clear and Sugi (cedar) wire-brushed boards; the deck is Clear Deck laid on the diagonal (jig finish); exterior features include square Hinoki louvers. While the timber is Japanese, the design language is distinctly Thai—yet it expresses Japanese aesthetics throughout. This kind of cross-border collaboration is truly enjoyable.
The neighborhood itself is remarkable: the developer purchased an extensive marsh, raised select areas with the excavated soil for housing, and left the excavated sections as expansive ponds—almost lake-like. The master plan is beautifully executed, with gently curving blocks that create a refined streetscape. Strict height limits protect the skyline; buildings that would mar the view are not permitted. Along broad boulevards, eucalyptus groves frame vistas toward the lakes beyond—an urban design that sets a strong foundation for a cohesive landscape.
With each project, architect Panuwat and the builder Timbercharm continue to evolve. We at KYOEI LUMBER will likewise keep advancing the value of wood through thoughtful proposals and craft.
