YAKISUGI

Q Are there any precautions when using Yakisugi in areas with heavy snowfall?

A

When using Yakisugi products with a remaining charred surface layer, such as Kuro and Shikkoku, in areas with heavy snowfall, certain precautions should be taken.
Moisture from snow and snowmelt can penetrate the charred surface layer, and repeated freezing and thawing may cause the charcoal layer to peel away together with ice during the thawing period.

For use in snowy regions, it is recommended to reduce the direct impact of snow and snowmelt on exterior walls by incorporating design measures such as deeper eaves or overhangs (typically around 1–2 meters).

Alternatively, choosing finishes in which the charred layer has been removed, such as Gen or Misugi, can help minimize these effects.
