YAKISUGI

Q What should be noted when installing Yakisugi?

A

Yakisugi boards are supplied with a moisture content of approximately 12–15%.
This helps reduce issues such as warping or lifting caused by exposure to rain or expansion in high-humidity environments.

Before installation, it is recommended to allow the boards to acclimate to local site conditions.
To do so, let them acclimate in the shade in a well-ventilated area prior to use.

For Yakisugi products with a remaining charred surface layer (such as Kuro and Shikkoku), care must be taken during nailing. Driving nails too forcefully can damage the charred surface layer due to impact, making the charcoal more likely to peel or flake off.
